Tourism Ireland
Tourism Ireland is the all-Ireland organisation tasked with marketing the Island of Ireland as a holiday destination to global markets. Tourism Ireland needed to update their Media site. A site dedicated to disseminating tourism news and events across the globe.
Project kickoff
An initial workshop was held with senior stakeholders from Tourism Ireland where project objectives were set and target users and their needs were defined. As the market for the site was global a strategy for localisation was required.
Architecture
The site needed to be able to speak to the different locations and have content specific to their needs, so a strategy was developed around this idea and the site architecture reflected this with each location getting their own subsite under the global site. I created the site maps based on this idea. Each site was a clone of the global site and through the CMS could have unique location specific content.

Modularity
To help progress the project I created wireframes of the main pages and modules. These templates were built from reusable modules and could be reorder and used across multiple templates. Each of the module's functionality was specified and development could start ahead of final visual designs.
Visual design
Once the templates and modules were agreed with the stakeholders I started on the visual design. The site needed to allow the content to speak for itself.
The results
Tourism Ireland were delighted with how easy the site was to populate within the CMS and with how flexible the modules were. When the site launched after a month the page views increased by over 3% and session duration was up by 16%.
